Newbies & New Beginnings!

The start of Signature’s 5th year has begun! And, the best year yet!

Signature at the Shore Hotel singing for Hulu!

First off, we are so excited to announce our new members for the 2011-2012 year:

Katie Behzadi (Alto 1)
Katie Booth (Soprano 2)
Shani Taylor-Keeling (Alto 2)
Tasha Wenger (Soprano 2)

Our newbies are absolutely amazing and we love them!!!

To kick off the year, we have had two amazing events so far:

First, we had so much fun performing at the Yorba Linda Public Library. We met some new fans and got to chat with some of you that we already know! Performing for such an amazing audience was a great start to the year and Signature cannot wait until we return to Yorba Linda in January!

Our second performance was at Hulu’s Company Event Party at the newly opened (and swanky) Shore Hotel in Santa Monica! We were absolutely honored to perform for the event and we were so pleased to hear that our music was the first a cappella music that most of them have ever heard, let alone danced to!!! It was also the first event in which our new girls got to perform! The night was a blast and Signature even got to participate in the fun activities at the event after our set including the photo booth (which we definitely enjoyed)!

We are full steam ahead and looking forward to a great year!

For more details on upcoming performances check out our Events page.

2010-2011… A School Year to Remember!

Hello Signature fans!

Spring Quarter came and went in a blur! Although we’re sad to see it end, the 2011-2012 school year has brought so many amazing things for Signature… from retreats and festivals to recording and end-of-the-year concerts, this quarter was the perfect capstone to Signature’s best year yet! Here are some of the highlights:

Thanks to the amazing Leibovitch family we spent our Spring retreat poolside at their Northridge home. We loved our time there and spent most of it relaxing (by the pool!) and singing!

Out to dinner!

Musically, Signature began recording our second CD! we are so excited to embark on another recording project to be released in Spring of 2013! Signature had the opportunity to perform in countless gigs this quarter, on as well as off campus! Spring Quarter also brings some of our favorite annual gigs, including: CAF (California A Cappella Festival) at UCLA, CAFE (Coolest A Cappella Festival Ever) at UC Irvine, SOLTrain at CSU Northridge, and A Cappella Night at Calabasas High School. We loved getting the chance to perform in different venues and audiences and to get to know other talented a cappella groups!

Before performing a set for CAF, hosted at UCLA by Random Voices A Cappella.
After performing at CSUN Acasola's annual SOLTrain!
Our sisters at Calabasas High School -- Bare Rhythm A Cappella!

We were also thankful to have so many friends and family members at Signature’s last performance of the year, our Spring Concert. Our concert was super hero themed with costumes galore, entitled “Here to Save the World: Super Sigs!” We were accompanied by openers Michelle & Rus and Bare Rhythm A Cappella and our own Josephine Lyons created some hysterical concert videos that you can view on the righthand side of the screen! It was an amazing capstone to our year, as we recognized our “super fans,” up and coming arrangers, beatboxers, and leaders, as well as graduating Signature seniors. Thank you to those who came and supported us during this special performance!

Performing one of our favorite songs, "And So It Goes."
Laura and Elise C rock out to their duet on "Animal!"
Singing our Michael Jackson medley!
After the concert... Signature love, 2010-2011

Signature’s Spring Concert also marked the last performance for six of our senior members, four of which have been members since Signature’s inception: Brinda Ayer, Kelly Cory, Juliane Godfrey, Elise Shulman, Megan Siniscalchi and Laura Zdrowski. Although these graduating seniors are going into very different fields and future paths — from accounting to nursing to law, musical theater in New York or fighting for the environment in Washington D.C. — they will always be Siggies at heart!

Even more memorable than the gigs or recording is the amazing memories and friendships we have made through Signature A Cappella this year. Our love for each other is what makes us the group that we are — and we know this love will only continue to grow! Here’s to 2010-2011, and hope for an even more amazing 2011-2012!

Some amazing newbs!

Happy Summer from Signature! See you next Fall!

Signature takes on Spring Sing 2011!

Hello friends & fans!

Signature’s fourth year in existence culminated in their performance in UCLA’s longest-standing musical tradition, Spring Sing! Students of the UCLA Student Alumni Association plan this amazing event each year, presenting student musical talent — solo and duet acts, bands, a cappella groups, and production numbers — to thousands of audience members from UCLA and the Los Angeles community at UCLA’s Los Angeles Tennis Center. This year, we were absolutely ecstatic to learn that we were one of three a cappella groups selected to perform at this huge event in May!

Right after our Spring Sing performance!

Our group put in an incredible amount of hard work and dedication into perfecting our routine, making our Spring Sing act our central focus from January until the event on May 20… and it certainly paid off! We were confident when we took the stage on the big night and it was so exciting to share our finished product with our friends and family members, some of which traveled across the country to come watch us perform!

Striking our best Michael Jackson poses!

We performed our original anthemic Michael Jackson medley, arranged by our own Juliane Godfrey and Laura Zdrowski entitled “Change the World: A Tribute to Michael Jackson.” This song was extremely meaningful to our group and we hope we conveyed our admiration for this influential artist as well as the power we have as individuals to make a difference in the world around us!

Signature was the second a cappella group to perform and won the award for “Best Participation,” which distinguishes the group with the most enthusiastic spirit and dedication throughout the preparation for Spring Sing — we are very proud of this achievement! It was an immense honor to perform at Spring Sing with UCLA’s most talented musicians and the experience made Signature an even more hard working and cohesive unit!

Getting ready for the show!

If you missed the opportunity to see our performance live on May 20, do not fret! To buy the Spring Sing CD online (or just Signature’s track!) visit SAA’s website by clicking HERE! To watch our act, here’s a video!:

Mid-Quarter Update!

Hello friends!

Signature has too much exciting news to wait until the end of the quarter to post an update! Thus far, the school year has been a blur of making music and memories. We are so thankful for all of the wonderful opportunities we’ve had this year!

Signature 2010-2011!

Our most exciting bit of news is that Signature A Cappella has been selected as one of the three UCLA a cappella groups to perform in UCLA’s annual tradition of Spring Sing! We are absolutely beyond excited for this opportunity and we can’t wait to perform for the student body! Tickets go on sale on Friday, April 15 and the big show is on Friday, May 20 at LATC. More updates on this to come!

Getting ready for our audition!

During the end of January, Signature participated in LAAF (Los Angeles A Cappella Festival). This was one of our favorite events of the year thus far because we had such a positive experience in our master class with Nick Lyons, and because it was amazing to be surrounded by so much inspiring talent! Here are some moments captured by Michael Eldredge:

In our master class with Nick Lyons!

Juliane gettin' Siggy wit' it!

Signature is also still beaming from our Southern California tour. This tour of the Orange County/Irvine area gave us the opportunity to perform for a whole new set of fans! Our favorite moments include: performing for elementary and high schools in the area, the Messiah Lutheran Church in Yorba Linda, and enjoying the amazing hospitality of Siggy’s SoCal families. Special thanks to the Siniscalchi, Ayer, Lyons, and Hagemeyer families for making us feel right at home!

Before performing at Linda Vista Elementary School!

This tour (and this quarter as a whole!) has been extra special because our members Brinda, Lea, and Michelle R have returned from their quarters abroad! With everyone back together we had our photoshoot for the 2010-2011 school year with the whole gang. Here are some of our best shots captured by our member Gwenna McKee:

Winter Quarter Update!

We can’t BELIEVE how fast Winter Quarter zoomed by! The past few months have been incredible and busy for Signature… from our first ever Northern California Tour, to our Winter Concert at Fowler Outloud, to various gigs and socials.

The fun began with our amazing tour of Northern California, from January 7-10. This tour gave us the unique opportunity to share the music we have been working so hard on with friends and family we don’t normally get to perform for! Along with performing for fans in Marin and Oakland, we also performed at various elementary and high schools, Yellow Wood Coffee House in Alamo, Starstruck Theater’s Gala, and the streets of San Francisco.

This trip was definitely the highlight of our year, as we gained the opportunity to travel and bond as a group, to inspire young students to pursue singing, and to make an enormous step toward fundraising for our CD. Thanks to the love and support of friends and family, Signature fundraised a total of $2,779! A special thank you to the Piccinini family, the Cory family, and the Rice family for feeding, driving, and housing us – you are truly amazing!

Videos from our performance at St. Theresa’s Church in Oakland can be found on the righthand side of the site, and pictures from our tour are below. We will forever cherish the memories!

Signature also had the pleasure of performing in Fowler Museum’s weekly concert series, Fowler Outloud. It was amazing to see faces of friends and alumni in the audience and to show off the repertoire we had been working so hard on all year!

And who could forget Signature’s National Anthem at the UCLA vs. Cal men’s basketball game? We were SO honored to perform at such an important sporting event and loved cheering for the Bruins on the sideline afterward!

Siggies on the big screen!

This year, more than half of Signature’s members fundraised and danced for 26 hours straight at UCLA’s annual Dance Marathon! Go team Siggy!

Additionally, Signature had so much fun performing at events on and off campus – Los Angeles A Cappella Festival, Global Get Down, Greek Week, luncheons for UCLA alumn, and singing the National Anthem at a wide variety of sporting events.

Keep an eye out for more performances in the exciting quarter to come!
